CT High School Senior Photography – Mike

CT High School Senior Photography

New Milford High School Graduate Mike

When we were talking about locations for Mike’s senior session I asked the usual questions. What have been your biggest interests in high school? How have you spent most of your time? Which locations mean the most to you? What are your overriding memories of your high school career? We put all the answers together and it became quite apparent that we had to plan a trip to New York City.

You see Mike played baseball and golf and he also played and marched with the New Milford High School band. He was section leader for the low brass section, playing the sousaphone and the trombone, all great things to incorporate into his senior session, but what led us to New York city? Well every Sunday for his senior year Mike travelled into Lincoln Center and played jazz with a group there. Every Sunday in the Upper West Side in NYC? Well there we had it; we needed to go to Lincoln Center and we had to walk over into Central Park and capture that aspect of his senior year! An excuse to spend the day in the city? I love location shoots!

We met again a few weeks later because there were some New Milford hang outs that Mike wanted to include. I had a blast spending time with him and I can not wait to hear what the future brings for this bright, articulate and extremely talented young man.

Good luck at University of Hartford studying acoustical engineering and jazz!

Do not let the high school senior pictures represent your senior year! Each Planet Photo high school senior session is unique and designed to show your personality, your interests and your style.

Family Photographer CT – Cake Smash Milestone

Cake Smash Milestone

Family Photographer Connecticut

Greta was scheduled for her first birthday cake smash with big sister Aine along to help out. Hands down one of the best aspects of my job is getting to know some incredible families. I feel honored to be the photographer that Ian and Kate have chosen to photograph their children’s first milestones. I love seeing how they grow and change and catching up on all the family adventures.

So, the family arrived with another fabulous Sweet Spot cake and we got down to business. A couple of cute outfits (Kate loves Hanna Andersson so I can usually look forward to something adorable!) Aine has been working on her British accent with some Peppa Pig so we got the music playing and let the girls dance a bit while we set up for the cake. I LOVE it when the birthday star gets stuck in to the cake! Greta was delicate at first but she ended up being covered in frosting. And sprinkles. Lots of sprinkles! Aine sat in to help with some frosting so we finally got them in the same frame 😉

Like most one year olds Greta doesn’t exactly sit still for long and this is when I love to bring out the tub. Bubbles and warm water and most babies stay still long enough for me to get some close up portraits and capture the fun of the bath tub. That’s when I get the giggle images too – can you see Greta’s tooth? How cute is that!!!!

If you are wondering when you should book a portrait session you can follow the milestone plan, schedule around a family event or reunion or just pick a time that works for your family. My summer shooting schedule is reduced to spend time with my family but contact me to schedule your family session. Believe me, time flies – I will have two in high school this year!!!

High School Senior Portraits CT – Will

A senior portrait session should reflect YOUR personality.

I literally twitch when I hear about the school portrait day. Girls are draped in black and the guys wear a fake jacket and bow tie so that everyone is guaranteed to look alike. Cookie cutter portraits in the year book are fine, I guess, but a senior deserves so much more to remember this important year.

When planning your senior portraits ask yourself these questions: What has defined your high school experience? Do you march in the band? Play football? Lacrosse? Tennis? Are there places that mean so much to you that they bring a flood of memories? The answers will help you choose locations, themes and the style of your shoot.

Will is a member of the New Milford High School Band so we incorporated some images with his mellophone into his shoot. He is also a really accomplished tennis player and a member of the high school tennis team, who has spent many summer days on the tennis courts of the New Milford Tennis and Swim Club, so we had to stop there!

Take a look at Will’s senior portraits, I am so glad they didn’t settle for the cookie cutter option! Including his sister Meg (and Tipper the family dog) into a couple of shots was great, I even encourage parents to jump in if they are available.

I can’t wait to hear what the future holds for Will but his parents will always have these portraits to remind them of this special time.

Winter Wonderland Model Tribe Shoot Dikes Point New Milford

Winter Wonderland – Planet Photo Tribe

Winter portraits

We finally got snow! And lots of it…… so time for some winter portraits!

I met a few of the girls from the Planet Photo Tribe out on the shores of Candlewood Lake to have some fun in the snow. Dikes Point is stunning year round. It is the perfect vantage point to appreciate the fall colors and summer boat rides, but on this day the lake was smooth and as calm as could be. Candlewood Lake is usually a great winter destination for ice fisherman, ice skaters and daring snow mobile rides but not this year….. the lake has yet to totally freeze. As everyone keeps saying, it’s early yet, we could still have a lot more snow and many more days of freezing temperatures. I guess you just have to be careful what you wish for!

Thanks to Avery, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Sam for braving the cold and sharing a hot chocolate with me at the lake!

Stay warm!

Some of the group concept shoots are planned out in advance and some are added last minute to take advantage of a particular situation. A combination of 12 inches of fresh powder snow and 40 degree weather meant that we HAD to go out and shoot so  this was a last minute add-on for the Planet Photo Tribe! Check back for our next group shoot.

Happy Birthday Gemma

A sunset walk at Silver Sands for Gemma’s 3rd Birthday Portraits!

Gemma’s mom Joya never disappoints when she is planning for birthday portraits! Gemma had the most adorable dress for her 3rd birthday and it was amazing to catch up with them all again.  It got a little chilly towards the end of the evening but nothing that a snuggle in Daddy’s arms couldn’t fix. Does she look familiar? Here she is as a newborn, on her first birthday and on her 2nd birthday. I love watching her grow up.

Halloween Styled Photo Shoot

Halloween Styled Photo Shoot

Part II – In color

Thanks for all the great feedback on Part I of our Halloween styled shoot. We really did have a lot of fun and as “creepy amazing” as some of the images looked, we had lots of laughs and so many of the creative ideas came from the girls, so a huge thank you to them.

halloween styled photo shoot

Did you know…..The American Halloween tradition of “trick-or-treating” probably dates back to the early All Souls’ Day parades in England. During the festivities, poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called “soul cakes” in return for their promise to pray for the family’s dead relatives. The distribution of soul cakes was encouraged by the church as a way to replace the ancient practice of leaving food and wine for roaming spirits. The practice, which was referred to as “going a-souling” was eventually taken up by children who would visit the houses in their neighborhood and be given ale, food, and money.

The tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween has both European and Celtic roots. Hundreds of years ago, winter was an uncertain and frightening time. Food supplies often ran low and, for the many people afraid of the dark, the short days of winter were full of constant worry. On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. On Halloween, to keep ghosts away from their houses, people would place bowls of food outside their homes to appease the ghosts and prevent them from attempting to enter. halloween styled photo shootmodel-tribe_halloween_harrybrooke_park_new-milford_ghosts__0018halloween styled photo shootmodel-tribe_halloween_harrybrooke_park_new-milford_ghosts__0023

When I was growing up in England dressing up for Halloween always centered on ghosts, witches and the more traditional side of Halloween. I don’t remember seeing jack-0-lanterns and the modern version of trick-or-treating and children dressing as princesses and super heroes seems to have been established in the US in the early 1950’s although I am pretty sure it is popular in lots of other countries now. One quarter of all the candy sold annually in the U.S. is purchased for Halloween – how crazy is that!

A huge thank you to Harrybrooke Park and the Harden House for our amazing location and there is still time to visit the haunted trail on October 28 and 29, 2016.

Happy Halloween!

NMHS Senior Evan – Class of 2017

NMHS Senior Evan

Class of 2017

It was so fun planning NMHS Senior Evan’s portrait session. He had a couple of ideas for outfits and he really wanted to incorporate some familiar locations around New Milford, his hometown, into his shoot. He is a great athlete and is looking at schools with lacrosse programs but he knows that the courses matter most; he will need a good college education and he is driven to achieve that. I will let you know when he decides where the next stage will take place.

If you know New Milford then you know Bank St. Here is Evan at the newly renovated United Bank Building – 19 Main.

Evan has done a couple of shoots with me and you may remember he is also part of the Planet Photo team. Check out his lacrosse passion portrait from earlier this year. He got his headshot for the yearbook but see how many backgrounds he chose for his senior pictures! It is not too late to book your customized senior portrait session.

Back to School Fashion 2016

Back To School Fashion Trends 2016

The Planet Photo Tribe at New Milford High School

Back to School in CT is the end of August so usually too hot for the fall fashion trends but for many middle and high schoolers planning out their outfits for the first week of school is what they look forward to the most!

So what can you expect to see in the classrooms this fall and winter?

Here are some of the Planet Photo model tribe with some of their favorite fall looks.

Long sweaters and cardigans seem to be everywhere and they are the cozy, wrap around your body style. Perfect with jeans or leggings but also adorable with a dress or skirt. Olivia paired her cardigan with jeans and Belle can extend her summer dress into fall by pairing it with a sundress and boots.

Military jackets, bomber jackets and khaki green seems to have found its way into a lot of fall wardrobes. I haven’t seen much camo but lots of military inspired looks. Olivia rocked the bomber jacket and Taylor dressed up her simple khaki green T shirt with cute accessories and a denim shirt around her waist for cooler days.

Sam and Avery look adorable in lightweight sweaters, with colored jeans and a summer dress and Belle’s wearing a long cardigan with raspberry colored jeans.

Look for pinks, purples, reds and mix them up!back_to_school_fall_2016_model_tribe_0006Back_to_school_2016

Cozy flannel shirts paired with jeans or shorts are perfect for fall. Avery proves that layering is always in style!back_to_school_fall_2016_model_tribe_0008
Overalls are back, relaxed and unbuttoned on one side for a casual look.

What’s new with shoes?….. try metallic, vans or retro styled sneakers. Boot season will be upon us before we know it.

Look for denim and faux suede, skirts, dresses or pants – you can’t go wrong.

Thanks to Taylor, Sam, Belle, Olivia and Avery of the Planet Photo Tribe for a great shoot! The clothes featured were a combination of the girls own with a selection of the 2016 American Eagle fall collection. Marshalls had the great long cozy sweaters and bomber jacket.

Have a great year girls!

Senior Photographer New Milford CT – Elizabeth

Senior Photographer New Milford CT

Congratulations Elizabeth!

Meet recent Brookfield High School graduate Elizabeth. She is a hard working student, an accomplished Irish dancer and a beautiful girl inside and out so you can imagine how fun it was to be a part of Elizabeth’s senior session. She has also been part of the Planet Photo Model Team and we will miss her when she leaves for college! She will be heading off to school at UConn in the fall and I have no doubt we will be hearing great things about her achievements there.

Elizabeth chose a natural, rural look for her portraits and we planned her outfits to fit the mood she was going for. I have photographed her a number of times through the years and it is always a pleasure.

Newborn Photographer New Milford CT – Mia Coco

Newborn Photographer New Milford CT

Welcome Mia Coco!

Mia was seven weeks old when she visited me in the studio. I had heard that she had lots of hair but I wasn’t quite prepared for this much hair and eyes that suck you right in!

I couldn’t wait to share a couple from Mia’s newborn session. There is lots of down time at a baby shoot, feedings, diaper changes, the usual new baby stuff so I always get to know the new parents pretty well. What a pleasure it was to meet both of them! You are in good hands Mia Coco <3
