Senior Portrait Style Guide
Choosing the right outfit for a senior portrait photoshoot is key to feeling confident and looking your best...... But where to begin?
The good news is we go over styling and locations at your consultation! I want you to feel like the best version of you so start in your own closet. Figure out what you have that you love, and then let's add to that. Reese used my favorite rental site Nuuly to add some variety to her photoshoot style. Nuuly offers an amazing selection of Anthropologie brands like Maeve and FreePeople with inclusive sizing for my fellow tall ladies and petite friends! If you want to go shopping then check out Zara, H&M and Nasty Gal for less expensive versions of the current trends you love in Anthropologie. Variety is important and makes your portraits more interesting.
Incorporate interests and hobbies: in unexpected ways! Reese plays volleyball so of course we had to get a couple in her uniform.
Full Dresses and Skirts: A dress or skirt and cute top combo can be flattering and add movement to your images.
Hair and Makeup: Ensure your hair is styled and light makeup to enhance your features. Consider changing your hair style with an outfit change!
Ironed and Clean: Make sure your clothes are wrinkle-free and clean. Don't stuff them in a bag to come to the studio let them hang so they don't get crumpled on the way to the shoot.
Undergarments: Nothing can spoil an image faster than the wrong underwear! Try everything on before your shoot and make sure you have what you need to feel comfortable and look amazing.
You'll be invited to a cap and gown mini session before graduation or you can bring it with you if you prefer.
Avoid Distracting Patterns: Solid colors or subtle patterns tend to photograph better than bold, busy prints.
Fit and Flatter: Wear clothes that fit well and flatter your body shape.
Show your Personality: Don't be afraid to to use one of your outfits to really shine and show the world who YOU are!
Layers and Accessories: Wearing layers and complimentary jewelry adds interest and variety in your photos. It's easy to take a jacket on and off to make an outfit look a little different.
Avoid Logos and Text: Clothing with large logos or text can be distracting. Unless you want to show off the college you'll be attending - that's always allowed!
