PRETTY IN PINK

A Barbie Themed Photo Shoot

barbie themed photoshoot

Styled shoots are one of the most popular aspects of the Planet Photo Tribe, this pink theme was so much fun! After brainstorming ideas for the shoot the idea of the bright pink Barbie logo took hold. I found the most amazing Barbie pink dress at Goodwill and the theme was set.

Barbie was first manufactured in 1959 and it is estimated that over a billion Barbie dolls have been sold world wide. A billion little girls have taken Barbie with them, changing their outfits and imagining all the things they could be and the places they could travel.

The Economist has emphasized the importance of Barbie to children’s imagination:

“From her early days as a teenage fashion model, Barbie has appeared as an astronaut, surgeon, Olympic athlete, downhill skier, aerobics instructor, TV news reporter, vet, rock star, doctor, army officer, air force pilot, summit diplomat, rap musician, presidential candidate (party undefined), baseball player, scuba diver, lifeguard, fire-fighter, engineer, dentist, and many more….When Barbie first burst into the toy shops, just as the 1960s were breaking, the doll market consisted mostly of babies, designed for girls to cradle, rock and feed. By creating a doll with adult features, Mattel enabled girls to become anything they want”

Senior Portraits: Go Big or Go Home

When it comes to
senior portrait sessions,
go big or go home.

What do I mean by that?

This is an incredibly transformative period of your life.  So much is about to change.  You begin this year as a child, and end it as an adult.  Commemorating this transition requires big, bold gestures.  That is why this year holds the biggest events of your life thus far – college or trade school admission, maybe your first job application, prom, graduation, and countless other benchmarks honoring this transition.

It is appropriate, therefore, to carve out time to capture this moment, this turning point in your life.  Selfies are not up to the task.  Amateur photographers can capture a few nice photos of you.  But in order to do a senior photo session justice, it isn’t enough to take nice pictures of you.  This is about more than just capturing your physical appearance at this moment in time.  This is about capturing who you are right now.

It isn’t enough to take photos of you; we strive to take photos about you.

Photos that tell the story of what makes you unique, what dreams you are about to chase down, what heights you are striving to reach.

How do we do it?

It starts with an in person consultation.  At this consultation, we want to delve into what makes you special.  Once we have a sense of who you are, we design a custom photo session just for you.  The resulting photographs will be something you will be proud to show.  They will give you a confidence boost.  They will help you get noticed.  And years from now, they will be priceless family heirlooms your descendants will treasure.

In a world where heavily filtered selfies are omnipresent, your photographs will have a timelessness and a quality that sets them apart.

Schedule your consultation now, before the back to school chaos sets in.  It’s easy!

Back to School NMHS

Back to School

The Junior Tribe at NMHS

Jordana, Grace and Katie will be Freshman at New Milford High School this year so we met there for our Junior Tribe Back to School photo shoot. NMHS has a hybrid model this year so students will be learning in person for two days per week and online for three days. That means back to school shopping is a little different (I hear that Lululemon and Athleta are having their best years ever, and jeans companies are struggling, because who wants to wear jeans during quarantine?) but planning your first day of school outfit is still so much fun and we can knock those outfits out of the park for two days a week.

I grew up in the UK and I wore a school uniform until I was 16, but even getting a new uniform and shiny new shoes for the first day of school was exciting, so I LOVE to see all the photos on social media of kids heading off on their first day.

Good luck to all the students heading back to school soon and to all the parents getting ready to drop kids off at college.

We got this! It’s going to be hard to send those kids back but I am excited for them to see their friends and teachers.

Stay safe. Be smart. And wear your mask!

Bubbles and Balloons with the Junior Tribe

Portraits New Milford

Harrybrooke Park is a popular destination for portraits in New Milford, CT. The gardens are spectacular and I thought we might find a little relief from the sun in the shade of all the beautiful evergreen trees for our bubbles and balloons Junior Tribe shoot.

Ella, Kate and Caitlin were fantastic and we had so much fun because they are all starting to get to know each other. There is something incredibly joyful about seeing bubbles drifting in the air, maybe memories of childhood? I probably put them in the same category as seeing a rainbow or driving past a herd a field of cows…. I can’t resist the temptation to announce that I see them!

We had lots of laughs and maybe just a tiny little bit of competition to see who could blow the biggest bubble!

I am so happy to be spending time with this amazing group of girls this summer! We are three shoots into our summer Junior Tribe model experience and I can’t wait for the next one. We’ll be in the studio next week for something a little different but you’ll have to wait to see what our theme is…..

Every time I asked Ella if she could do something she just leaped into action. It’s so fun to photograph dancers and gymnasts!

So for the first time EVER we are opening up the Tribe to our younger followers.  Junior Tribe Group shoots will be planned every week over the summer and you can choose FOUR shoots to take part in. Do you want portraits floating in a milk bath of flowers? How about covered in fruit loops? Flower crowns in a field of wild flowers? Each week will have a new group shoot theme and you pick the ones that you like best!

All participants must be in 7th, 8th or 9th grade

FAQ

most frequently asked questions

The summer Junior Tribe costs $599 and includes a 8×8 book of your 25 favorite images from your group shoots. The book is designed especially for you!

No! I am actually looking for Junior Tribe influencers from a variety of different high schools. You just have to be available and able to come to some/or most of the Tribe summer group shoots.

Nope. Some of the best portraits are in every day clothes. Group shoots usually have a theme and I create a pinterest board to guide everyone. You can often borrow from friends to complete your styling.

I am experienced in lighting, posing and styling to make you look and feel amazing! As long as you like having your photo taken!

Of course! But don’t feel like you have to go in with a friend – you will finish the year with lots of new friends!

Every Junior Tribe member gets a FREE Custom mobile app that lives on your phone with YOUR group and themed shoot images

  • Milk Bath
  • The cereal aisle
  • 4th of July
  • Back to School
  • Glitter party
  • Sweet as sugar
  • Flower crowns
  • Bubbles and balloons

Sometimes, but make up is a little tricky right now! I will advise you on what you need to make you camera ready. When you feel beautiful then the camera sees that confidence. It will depend upon the shoot and the theme though so sometimes you will do your own make-up.

You can add a FREE individual shoot to the Junior Tribe experience. You tell me how YOU want to be photographed. Your individual shoot is all about you, your style, your interests and your locations picks – I help of course, but we design it around you. You can add any product collection for a 20% discount!

The first group shoot will be held the last week of June so you need to sign up right away!

Tribe Picnic Group Shoot

Picnic Group Shoot

with the 2K20 Planet Photo Tribe

It seems like a lifetime ago that we were planning the last group shoot so we were so happy to be back for this first post COVID group shoot. We went with a picnic theme so that we could get used to being together again!

Normally the girls are draped over one another, in the way perfected by teenaged girls, but we kept our distance and shot outside. I am sure we will see the restrictions becoming more relaxed as the summer progresses but we were able to pull off a picnic with our own blankets, baskets and individual portions of food and we were comfortable with this gradual introduction to socializing again.

Isabelle, Samantha, Madi, Olivia and Bella styled themselves and did their own hair and make up but we had a little help from The Hunt to style our picnic. The selection at The Hunt changes all the time so you have to keep checking back, but it’s a cute new store in Brookfield, CT so check it out if you can!

Did you notice the message on the sign?

Travel far enough that you find yourself.

What great advice! I have always been a fan of living in another state or country to give you the experience of living as part of another culture but also that unique perspective of seeing your home environment with new eyes. If you could live anywhere in the world where would you go?

Project Beauty 2020

on location

Project Beauty is always one of my favorite shoots. It’s a way for me to meet a whole bunch of local teens and show them that they are good enough, beautiful enough and deserving of beautiful images of themselves. Usually we shoot in the studio but this year I visited everyone to shoot them in their natural habitat. I have to say, I kind of liked the new twist!

Our 2020 Donation

Every year I select a different organization to support with Project Beauty and this we were able to donate $550 to Camella’s Cupboard. The COVID crisis has affected us all in many different ways and we are all experiencing our own version of hardship. Some are lonely and suffering anxiety and depression. Some have lost jobs or have been sick for weeks at a time and some families are living, working and studying in small homes without adequate food, internet access or the technology to maintain school grades. Camella’s Cupboard has been supporting local families suffering from food insecurity and not surprisingly their number of families needing support has swelled during this crisis. I hope that our project can help to remove some of that stress.

Additional Donations can be made directly to Camella’s Cupboard

Thank you to all the girls who participated in Project Beauty 2020.

Covid Safety

Policies and Procedures

A Covid-19 update

Let me tell you that I can not wait to get back to work and scheduling portrait sessions again, I have missed my clients and the Planet Photo Tribe so much. I am committed to following the guidelines set out by the state of CT and my own common sense guidelines to do everything I can to protect the safely of my clients, their family and my own. I fully expect I will be updating these policies and procedures a few times over the next few months and I will do my best to accommodate the needs of all my clients.

What's new?

  • I will be wearing a mask during photo shoots.
  • Shoots will be outdoors for the time being – as guidelines change I will add individual studio sessions.
  • Long Distance Shooting – I will be photographing clients from a safe distance using a long lens during this pandemic. I have an amazing 70-200mm lens in my kit that was a favorite before this all happened!
  • In-person Consults or Ordering Sessions – For the foreseeable future, I will continue with virtual consults and ordering appointments via zoom
  • Style Closet Items – Because the virus can be transferred onto fabric, I am temporarily discontinuing my style closet, prop use, accessories, etc for now.
  • Cleaning supplies on shoots – I will have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes on every shoot and of course washing hands before meeting new clients.
  • One Person Only Policy – clients are only allowed to bring ONE person to the shoot.  Someone who can help adjust hair, fix a bra strap or clip clothing would be best so that I can limit ALL personal contact with clients.
  • Professional makeup – we will follow the state guidelines regarding make up appointments. At the moment I will be offering a zoom consultation with my make up artist as in person appointments are not yet available.
  • Sick Policy – If you or any family member shows any signs or symptoms of coughing, sneezing, runny  nose, sore throat, fever, etc please notify me as soon as possible and your session will be rescheduled.  Similarly, if any of my family member has symptoms then I hope you understand that I will also reschedule your shoot. Please try to give at least 48 hours notice if possible.

We will get through this together and find our new normal. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Celebrating the natural beauty of our teens

It’s that time again!

For the third year in a row I am going to be doing all natural portrait mini shoots to celebrate the natural beauty and confidence of our local teens. Now more than ever we need to recognize our teens and remind them that they are “good enough” just the way they are. They should not be judged by their clothes, hair, make-up or designer labels and you NEVER should judge a book by it’s cover;

  • Everyone is unique.
  • Differences should be celebrated.
  • Appearance does not matter.

We are all worthy and important.

Project Beauty is a movement among senior photographers all over the U.S. to place emphasis on simple, natural light portraits of young adolescents. No make-up. Simple clothes.  The emphasis is on you. You DESERVE it!

This year has been challenging to say the least, so let’s have some fun and remember who we are behind that snapchat filter and instagram worthy selfie!

Every year we make a donation to a local charity from Project Beauty. This year we will be raising funds for Camella’s Cupboard. Helping to provide food and supplement nutritional needs of local children.

What do I need to know?

Who can sign up?

Anyone and everyone between the ages of 13 and 18!

All are invited to join the movement to celebrate natural beauty. In the past it’s been mostly girls but I am not going to say no to the boys!

What should I wear?

I want the emphasis to be solely on you, so please choose a white or black top and denim on the bottom.

How much does it cost?

$60

50% of the proceeds will be donated to Camella’s Cupboard.

Can I include my family?

Unfortunately not for this one. This shoot is about our local teens. If you have a dog who joins in that would be OK. Teen aged siblings can book a time slot next to yours.

Where will we shoot?

I will come to you.

By that I mean, I will come to your yard or outside your home. I will not provide props or have a chair with me. You need to meet me outside and we will maintain AT LEAST six feet between us at all times.

What do I get?

You will get an app with FIVE social media sized files. Full resolution and additional images are available for purchase.

SIGN UP BY LOCATION

I am going to be coming to your yard or door step in May so please sign up for the day I will be in your area. I might contact you to adjust the time ever so slightly to cut down on zig zagging across town!

I will be in Southern New Milford (south of the bridge) on Tuesday, Sherman on Wednesday and Northern New Milford on Thursday.

If you are in a different town but would like to participate I would love to hear from you. Fill out the contact form and let me know your town and then invite your friends to join you!

Let's tell your story

can't wait to meet you!
